Meredith O'Brien, J.D.


Meredith O’Brien joined the Bailey Legal Group in 2019 with a focus on criminal defense and domestic relations. Ms. O’Brien currently serves as the Secretary for the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and she routinely speaks teaching other attorneys on the subjects of criminal defense in Ohio.

In 2004, Ms. O’Brien graduated from Denison University with her Bachelor’s of Political Science and History. Immediately following her graduation, Ms. O’Brien entered the United States Peace Corps, where she served in Sub-Saharan Africa as an education volunteer for over two years. In 2010, Ms. O’Brien graduated from Duquesne University School of Law with her Juris Doctor, and she began her legal practice in the areas of domestic relations and probate law. In 2013, Ms. O’Brien began working for the Franklin County Public Defender in the Municipal Unit where she quickly developed a reputation as a fearless litigator, trying dozens of criminal cases through verdict to juries.

Following the Franklin County Public Defender, Ms. O’Brien joined the private bar in Ohio with the law offices of Saia & Piatt, specializing in OVI and furthering her jury trial experience handling Rape and Attempted Murder cases. Ms. O’Brien returned to indigent defense joining the Cuyahoga County Public Defender in the Juvenile Unit. As a Juvenile Staff Attorney, Ms. O’Brien represented children in delinquency cases, as well as parents accused of abuse, neglect, and dependency. This experience provided Ms. O’Brien with expertise in all criminal trial work.

Throughout her legal career, Ms. O’Brien has been recognized for her accomplishments, talent, and tenacity, earning an award from the Franklin County Public Defender for her Zeal and Dedication in Defense of the Poor; the President’s Award from OACDL in recognition of her outstanding contribution for the advancement of criminal justice in Ohio; as well as being selected as a Rising Star in 2018 by Ohio Superlawyers.
